Intermediate electrical / controls engineer

Job Description

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the conception, controls design, and implementation of a variety of complex automation projects. These may include PLCs, HMIs, motion controllers, computer numeric controllers (CNC), and robotic systems. Travel within Canada and to the USA is required.

Resposibilities

  • Work on various stages of automation and control projects — electrical CAD, PLC programming, HMI design, simulation/testing, and commissioning
  • Assist project managers and senior engineers on controls projects, field service, and emergency calls
  • Apply engineering knowledge in electrical hardware and controls software design
  • Prepare project documentation including design requirements, specifications, schedules, reports, and user/operator manuals
  • Identify, track, and resolve open issues throughout the project lifecycle
  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet project objectives on time

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, automation, systems, or mechatronics engineering (or equivalent)
  • 0–2 years of programming experience (PLC, HMI, ST, C, SQL, or equivalent languages)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and fluids drawings
  • Knowledge of AC and DC circuits (single-phase, three-phase, DC) and power electronics
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • A drive to learn new concepts and enjoy working with new technologies
